A brand new story arc starts now. Couldn’t be any worse than the last one so check it out. Today I will be reviewing Hulk #42. Please leave me a comment and let me know what you think.
Hulk #42
So let’s talk about the book. Rulk and Fortean are battling each other yet again when Fortean is called away. Rulk returns to Annie to find out what happened. She informs him that he was responding to some info he received about a colonel that Fortean and Ross used to work with. That Colonel was killed on a mission in Qatar. Rulk steals a plane and heads over to Qatar. There he encounters the revolutionaries responsible for the Colonel’s death and begins to unleash his rage upon them. All is going well until he is blindsided and floored by an attack from the Secret Avengers. And that’s the book.
So let’s talk opinions. Oh yeah. Now this is more like it. Finally we get to see Rulk unleash some of that massive power upon some random shmoes. After the pathetic debacle that was Omegex, I am so happy that Marvel has decided to return some actual action to Hulk. Thank the lord we no longer have to sit through pages and pages of psycho babble and memories. This issue, the action is served up hot and heavy. Explosions, smashing and mass devastation. Who can ask for anything more from a Hulk book. (I can. Some real opponents to fight, but hopefully that happens next issue) On top of that, we have a wonderful new artist in Patch Zircher. Now while I was a fan of the previous artist and his blandish style, I am definitely happy to embrace the bigger bolder art of Zircher. I love that Rulk is actually larger and has more body tone and definition. I’m also enjoying the actual facial features that are clearer and easier to understand. The splashes and nice action sequences aren’t bad either. Another nice thing about this issue was Ross actually using his military background to steal a plane, fly it, and know where to fly it to avoid being detected. That, to me, is a proper use of the character. I really can’t wait to see Rulk go up against the Secret Avengers. If there’s any justice in the world, maybe we can actually have Rulk win a fight. Because seriously, the Secret Avengers, or at least the three he;s up against, don’t stand a chance in hell of beating a Hulk. I’m also hoping that we get a bit more details as to whatever occurred in the opening pages of this story. Was that alien letters? If yes, what actually happened to Dagan Shah? He seemed pretty interesting at first glance. I hope he isn’t forgotten or diminished in value like Omegex was in the last story arc. Overall, this issue was a very nice start to a new story arc. That’s my opinion folks. Take it or leave it.
