The Incredible Hulk #6 review

Final Battle. Gorilla-Man (Hulk) vs Captain Anorexia (Banner). Thank Portacio’s ridiculous artwork for that header. Today I will be reviewing The Incredible Hulk #6. Please leave a comment to let me know what you think.

The Incredible Hulk #6

So let’s talk about the book. The battle is on and it is non stop. Hulk and Banner are going toe to toe with each other. Banner has weapons and toys and his brain. Hulk is the Hulk. So naturally everything that Banner throws at Hulk is deflected, rejected, and ignored. Meanwhile, we learn that Doom’s price for the separation was to keep Banner. Hulk accepted at first. Then he thought twice about it, returned for the body and fled with it. Which was exactly what Doom wanted. Hulk leaps away with Banner’s body and leaves him on the island where the battle is currently underway. Back at Banner’s lab, Amanda Von Doom (maybe some relation, after this issue’s revelation) and Igor face down a squad of Hulked out humans but manage to defeat them all. Also, Amanda manages to activate the Gamma bomb that Banner built. Afterwards, she and Igor flee the island. Banner returns to his lab to try and stop the explosion but Hulk is there too. He grabs Banner and forces him to watch helplessly as the bomb goes off. And that’s the book.

So let’s talk opinions. Finally we have an unrelenting smackfest. I found it hilarious how much crap Banner managed to throw at Hulk that the Hulk just shrugged off without any care in the world. This is the reason why the Hulk is so damn dangerous. He has proven time and time again that he is the strongest one there is and no amount of evil genius in the world is going to outpower him. Banner tried with all of his might to pull off some sort of hail mary, but in the end, he just put his head down and accepted his fate. What I find kind of interesting is that now that Banner has been exposed to another Gamma Bomb, will he be able to turn into a Hulk too? That would be interesting to see. Two Hulks going at each other. (Wait. Just thought about it. This already happened and it sucked. Scratch that idea.) In any case, I don’t think Banner is dead. He is too damn smart to be dead. Also, a Hulk without Banner is like a bull with a vasectomy. Empty and useless. I love the little Doom and Amanda Von Doom backstory. Sets the stage for some good future plots. Hopefully Mr. Aaron will not let them hang too long. I like Amanda, and if she is part of the supporting cast here, I will be  a happy camper. Of course the art this issue was still sad but I’m not going to harp on it too much. Portacio can’t draw a properly shaped Hulk and his Banner looks like he just left a crack house. This wouldn’t be such an issue if those two characters weren’t the entire book, but since they are, Portactio needs to go away. Hopefully this happens soon. Overall, this was a good read and a satisfying ending to a very slow opening story arc. I can’t wait until next issue to see what happens to Banner. That’s my opinion folks. Take it or leave it.
